The Philippines is located in Southeast Asia, and comprises of more than 7, 000 islands. Its capital is Manila and the Philippines is a deeply religious country being primarily Christian, the majority of which are Catholic.
Activities highlighted on the Philippines tourism site include, trekking, surfing, diving, backpacking, shopping and volunteering, in addition to the featuring of its beautiful beaches including El Nido, (Palawan), Boracay (Aklan) and Samal (Davao) (https://www.tourismphilippines.com.au/). The primary languages spoken include Filipino and English and if travelling to the Philippines, it would is best to avoid the months between May and October which is the country’s typhoon season.
My experience in the Philippines was primarily in the city of Davao where I was able to spend my 18th birthday on a school immersion trip. Whilst there we spent a lot of our time with the Marist Brothers and Marist Sisters, and visited interesting sites such as the Davao Cathedral, Museo Dabawenyo (a museum) and Shrine Hills at which the Shrine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague is located. Getting around the city was a very different experience to travel in Australia as we would get to our destinations in jeepneys and motorised tricycles. The Filipino climate is extremely humid.
I had an amazing time in visiting the Philippines, it was an incredible culture to get to experience, with interesting local cuisine, and is a country I would definitely recommended visiting.
